The reservoir las Cogotas picks up the river Adaja letting the watering to a surface 8.000 hectares. The dam, concluded at 1994, is of double curvature, with a length of almost 300 meters and a high of 66 from the base. Owing to the proximity of the reservoir of Las Cogotas to the capital of Ávila, the project was fulfilled with the building of other mini-reservoir, called Fuentes Claras
The own city of Ávila, 14 km far away is tempting for the tourist because it is declared as World Heritage Site. Ávila is the most interesting and well-kept sample of the walled city of the Spanish Middle Ages. The churches, convents and monumental buildings, joined to the St Teresa’s remains, make of this tight Castilian population one of those peninsular bastions where the past of Spain and a way of living of the Medieval Europe are fully expressed.
On the East of Cardeñosa, Villacastin,that is rich in historical-artistic heritage,highlights and in its term the Eastern Cattle Route of León converges and the Western Cattle Route of Soria, highlighting the Church of St Sebastián, the biggest one of the province of Segovia that it is known as the “Cathedral of the Mountain Chain”.
It is 1103 meters high and it limits with the municipalities of Peñalba de Ávila, Zorita de los Molinos, Las BErlanas, Monsalve, La Alamedilla, Narrillos de San Leonardo and Mingorría.
It is communicated by the regional road that joins the capital with Arévalo and by the train line between Ávila and Salamanca.
In the municipal term is the archeological site of las Cogotas, one of the most important of the Iron Ages. Located next to the reservoir of Las Cogotas.

The archaeological site is located in the municipality of “Las Cogotas”, one of the most important municipalities of the Iron Age in Spain, next to the river Adaja, next to the dam reservoir Cogotas. 1 km from the North of the fort, the arch of the church of an isolated village can be seen and some rock tombs. The village keeps different traditional houses with rear yard with interesting details of stonework lintels and jambs. It has been traditionally a village of granite quarry. The apse of the parish is from the XV century, setting the octagonal chapel; the rest of the temple is from the XVI century and the offered ceiling of the central nave is Moorish. Through the term 45 stone cross are distributed with Steps of the Cross from the parish to the hermitage of the Virgin of Berrocal. The village keeps a squared bullring, it is not circular. There are remains of an old Romanesque road, as well as ruined flour mills.
